Glendurgan Garden is a 150 year old valley garden leading down to the Helford river near Falmouth in Cornwall.
These National Trust managed gardens are contained in a sloping valley leading down to the quiet fishing village of Durgan, with it's small sandy beach, on the Helford river. The gardens are sheltered on either side from harsh winds by bands of woodland so creating an almost tropical micro-climate environment. With plants from far flung places such as Mexico, New Zealand and South Africa, the lower part of the valley garden is jungle-like, while the upper parts have more arid type plants.
Amongst the plants in the garden are banana trees, ferns, camellias, gigantic tulip-trees, bamboos, giant rhubarb plants, trees and shrubs and wild-flowers, plus water features of ponds and babbling steams leading down to the sea. There is also a historic cherry laurel maze created in the 1830's and a May pole type piece of play equipment called The Giants Stride to swing around.
