Cookies explained

Cookies are small files which can be placed on your computer by webpages to hold pieces of information which can be later retrieved. There are basically two main types of cookies, one being called session or transient cookies and the other being called permanent or persistent. The session type of cookie is only saved into the computer’s memory and it will be removed if you close down your browsers. The persistent type of cookie is saved onto your computer’s hard drive and is given an ‘expiration’ date by the code that stores it and it will remain on your hard drive until that date, unless you manually delete it yourself. Some of the common uses of cookies are for counting how many unique people are viewing particular content or for holding some form of ‘userid’ to recognise and individual returning to a website and show them personallised content. Some cookies are stored in plain text, others are encrypted, like those placed on your computer by online banks.

Usage of cookies on this website

On Visitattractions.co.uk we add Google Analytics code to our pages. This code enables the Google Analytics tool we use to collect information regarding the visitors to our site and their usage of our pages. We do make sure that your IP address is anonymised. You can disable the placing of these cookies, if you wish, by going to the Google analytics opt-out page and installing the browser addon there.

Third party cookies can also be encountered when clicking any links we have that go to external websites (not owned by Visitattractions.co.uk).
