Arundel castle and gardens is built atop a motte overlooking the river Arun and surrounded by a dry moat and dates to the late 11th century.
The castle is the family seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and has been for over 850 years. Things to see inside include the armoury with it's collection of historic weaponry and suits of armour, heraldic stained glass windows, the library with mahogany panelling and it's Regency interior, collections of portraits and tapestries and the Victorian bedrooms and bathrooms.
Within the castle grounds is also Fitzalan Chapel dating from 1390 with Gothic architecture and carved timber roof where the Dukes of Norfolk are interred.
The gardens include an organic kitchen garden, a cut flower garden, a rose garden, the Stumpery, herbaceous borders, a tropical glass house, a Victorian vine house, the white garden and the collector Earl's garden (a Jacobean formal garden).
