Wray Castle is a mock-Gothic castle located near the Western shore of Lake Windermere in the Lake District in Cumbria.
An untraditional National Trust property in that it has no elegantly furnished interiors. Work is ongoing by the Trust to conserve and restore parts of the castle. Visitors can join one of the hourly free tours which tell the history of the castle from the 1840's to the 1990's. Things to do inside for children include dressing up, castle building and an activity room. The castle also features a working wooden portcullis which you can see in operation at opening and closing times.
In the informal family-friendly gardens and grounds there are more kids activities such as den-building, geo-caching sites and a rope swing, plus bike and walking trails and plenty of places for your own picnic.
