The Beacon is an interactive local history museum covering the borough of Copeland on the harbour-side in Whitehaven, Cumbria.
The museum is set over 5 floors and has many interactive exhibits and informative displays.
The first floor features changing temporary exhibits.
The second floor has paintings, photographs and costumes with exhibits about lifestyles, the lives of the different classes, leisure activities and wartime.
The third floor includes information on the stone circles, castles and important buildings in the area plus information on the early local industries and has artefacts on display which include Roman armour and an interactive ship exhibit.
The top floor of the attraction has great views over the town and telescopes with guides to help you identify various features around the seaside resort and a weather zone with an interactive touch-screen.
Guided tours of the museum and Whitehaven available for groups by prior arrangement.
