Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens is an attraction featuring a local history museum, a botanical glasshouse and a park in Sunderland city centre.
The museum has a number of galleries containing displays, historical and archaeological artefacts and audio visual presentations about the social and industrial history of the North East including many interactive exhibits. There are also galleries featuring natural history items including fossils and information about the geological make-up of the area. There is also an art gallery featuring works of art from local artists including a collection of paintings by L.S. Lowry. For children there are dressing up facilities.
The Winter Gardens are a botanical collection of more than 1500 plants of over 150 species of plants and trees all under a 30-metre dome. The dome contains water features, a fish pond, a treetop walk and grows exotic plants.
