Kingston Lacy is a large country mansion, gardens and estate covering 8500 hectares.
The original house was built in the 17th Century, but has since been remodelled a number of times and now resembles an Italian palace. The interiors are opulently decorated and furnished and include fine painting by world renowned artists such as Van Dyck and Rubens and one of the largest private collections of Egyptian artefacts.
A few of the attractions on offer in the gardens is an Obelisk relocated from an island on the Nile in Egypt which mentions Cleopatra, a seven-acre Japanese garden and a fernery.
There are many mapped out walks you can take around the gardens and estate, some downloadable from the National Trust website and there are also guided walking tours of the estate on specific dates. Volunteer-led guided free (if you bring your own bike) cycle rides through the estate are also regular features.
