Honister Slate Mine is a historical slate mine near Borrowdale, Cumbria in the Lake District.
The fully-guided underground tours of the mine last around an hour and a half and provide an all weather experience where the guides relate interesting geological and historical facts about the mine.
Vistors can also try their hand at the “Via Ferrata” (latin for iron way) a system of metal cables, rungs, ladders and rope bridges that allow visitors to traverse along the precipitous incline of an original miners track up to the top of Fleetwith Pike (over 2100 ft high).
