Hoghton Tower is a 16th century fortified manor house with gardens located between Preston and Blackburn in Lancashire.
Situated high on a hill, this Grade I listed fortified manor house dates from 1565 is the ancestral home of the de Hoghton family. The interiors are viewed by guided tour with the guides relating the history of the house and the family and it's famous visitors. The tour passed through the state rooms, along the ramparts, through the Tudor Well House and down the underground passages to the dungeons. There is also a permanent exhibition displaying a collection of 27 19th and 20th Century doll's houses.
There are also gardens and grounds to explore. The immediate grounds around the house consist of 3 separate walled gardens, the wilderness garden with lawns, herbaceous borders and topiary, plus the rose garden and the ramparts garden. Outside of the walled gardens visitors can take a walk through the ancient woodland. There is also a Farmers' Market set in the grounds, which occurs every third Sunday of the month between 10am and 2pm.
