East Kent Railway is a volunteer run attraction offering scenic train rides in heritage rolling stock running between the villages of Shepherdswell and Eythorne a few miles from Dover.
The track runs through a tunnel and steep chalk-lined cuttings along what was once an industrial line used by the local colliery and the carriages are currently pulled by either diesel or electric units.
The main station is at Shepherdswell where there are some other things to see and do. There is a miniature railway ride, which runs weather permitting and a historical military woodland walk. The visitor centre is set in an original signal box dating from 1887 filled with displays about the history of the East Kent Railway line. The Walmer model railway club also display 4 model railway layouts here including N gauge, OO gauge, Hands on Thomas and G scale which are presented inside a restored LMS Stainer carriage. There is also a children's play area.
