The Carpetbagger Aviation Museum is a museum about the USAAF's (United States Army Air Forces) 801st and 492nd Bomb Group (the Carpetbaggers) and their secret missions during the Second World War.
The museum is housed in the former group operations building that belonged to the Station 179 airfield, that the Carpetbaggers operated out of. Next door to the museum is the Northants Aviation Societies' museum which is housed in another of the airfield's old buildings, the Paymaster General's Nissan hut.
The museum is operated as a charitable organisation and purchasing a ticket gets you entry to both museums. The museums contain a host of information about the history of the airfield, the Carpetbaggers and also the British Special Operatives Executive who were based at Tempsford including maps, photographs, memorabilia, film footage and equipment plus the NAS museum has the remains of some World War II aircraft.
