Barley Hall is a medieval house once home to the Priors of Nostell and the Mayor of York, with the oldest parts dating from around 1360. Hidden, until the 1980's under the facade of a relatively modern office block, it was only discovered when the building was due to be destroyed. Once home to leading York citizen, William Snawsell who was a goldsmith in the late 15th century, the house has now been restored and furnished to represent a medieval house as it would have been when he owned it.
